Kate Middleton, Prince William’s Daughter Princess Charlotte Steals the Show at Wimbledon
Kate Middleton and Prince William are looking back.
In honor of the day on which World War II ended with the declaration of victory over Japan, the Prince and Princess of Wales—who’ve been spending much of their summer break out of the spotlight—shared a rare social media commemorating all who served in the United Kingdom.
“Today, on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day,” Kate and William began in a message shared to their social media platforms, “we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all who served. Today we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific.”
They continued, “We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful. Lest we forget.”
The couple signed off their message with “W & C,” for William and Catherine.
While the royal couple’s social media is full of posts bringing awareness to social and humanitarian issues or updates on the pair’s royal duties, the VJ Day message marks a rare occasion in which Kate and William addressed their followers directly.
