Putin wants Trump to visit Russia after meeting at Alaska

The Russian regime expressed on Thursday (14) the expectation of receiving the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in Russian territory after the meeting he will have on Friday (15) with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The request was made publicly by the special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Rodion Miroshnik, in an interview with the Russian state agency TASS.

“We are talking about symmetrical actions. If the Russian leader visits the US territory, we expect a reciprocal visit from the United States leader to Russian territory,” the diplomat said.

Asked about the possibility of Trump visiting Crimea – Ukrainian Peninsula taken by Russia in 2014 – the Russian representative was cautious: “We should not advance to the facts.”

This Friday’s meeting, scheduled to take place at a military base located in the city of Anchorage, will be the first among US and Russia leaders since 2021, when Putin met with then-Democratic President Joe Biden in Geneva. In addition to the war in Ukraine, the agenda should include proposals for a possible ceasefire and bilateral themes.

Putin’s visit to Alaska has a symbolic weight: he will be the first Russian head of state to step on the territory that, 158 years ago, was sold by Moscow to Washington for $ 7.2 million.

Miroshnik stressed that the rapprochement between Moscow and Washington cannot be restricted to war negotiations in Ukraine. “The United States and Russia have a wide range of subjects: international, economic, cultural, sports and otherwise, many of which have been suspended and should be developed for the parties,” he said.
