Brewer, 53, crashed into a wall on the 400-meter track of Bowman Gray stadium in Winston-Salem during a 20-lap race last Saturday (9) and stopped near the finish line.
Workers took the roof from the car to remove the pilot before an ambulance took him to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital, where he was declared dead, said the Winston-Salem Journal.
“We are saddened by the death of Robbie Brewer, who was transported to a local medical center after a medical incident on the track,” the track leaders said in a statement on Sunday (10).
“Robbie was a talented and passionate pilot, and a highly respected competitor among her peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s family and friends right now.”
Brewer won 11 times the division Sportsman in Bowman Gray and made 311 career matches at the historic stadium in all divisions, according to the site FloRacing.
