The funeral of Arlindo Cruz, who died on Friday (8), at 66, will be held on Saturday morning (9), on the block of the Serrano Empire, in Madureira, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). According to the sambista’s family, there will initially be a moment restricted to the nearest, but the farewell will be open to the public. The schedules and details of the funeral have not yet been informed.
The death of the singer and composer occurred due to multiple bankruptcy of the organs and was confirmed in the early afternoon by the artist’s wife, Babi Cruz. He was hospitalized at Barra D’Or Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The artist faced complications arising from a hemorrhagic stroke suffered in 2017.
Since stroke, Arlindo lived with neurological sequelae and was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. In July 2023, it was hospitalized for 21 days to treat pneumonia. The following year, he returned to the hospital to treat a respiratory infection.
“More than an artist, Arlindo was a samba poet, a man of faith, generosity and joy, who dedicated his life to leading music and love to all who crossed his way. His voice, his compositions and his smile will remain alive in the memory and heart of millions of admirers,” the sambista’s family published.
In the 1990s, the artist composed sambas-plot for the Serrano Empire, his school of heart. The first victory for the association took place in 1996, with the plot “and you will see that a son of yours does not escape the fight.” Arlindo Cruz also had sambas chosen in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2007. He was the plot of the school in 2023.
