A military policeman was shot around his neck on Thursday afternoon (7), while chasing suspects on a stolen motorcycle in the community of Paraisópolis, south of São Paulo. The agent was rescued by helicopter and taken conscious to the Hospital das Clínicas, where he is still hospitalized with stable condition.
According to the Military Police, the persecution began after complaints from a trawler committed by criminals in motorcycles in the region of Chácara Santo Antônio, also in the south. Radio teams patrolling with motorcycles located one of the suspects on South Africa Street. When trying to approach it, the agents began a chase to Paraisópolis.
During the escape inside the community, the bike croup threw it at the police and hit the neck of one of them. Then the same criminal stole the gun of the injured agent and fled with his fellow.
Images recorded by residents show the moment of shooting. Policing was expanded immediately after the attack and searches are underway to locate the two suspects and recover the stolen weapon.
According to the doctor who attended the policeman at the Hospital das Clínicas, the projectile broke a vertebra from the spine, but did not compromise vital functions. The agent is conscious and is not at risk of death, but remains under observation to evaluate possible sequelae.
Initial investigations indicate that the criminals involved in the action would also have participated in a trawler who left at least nine victims. One of the suspects was identified: he is 19 years old and riding one of the motorcycles used in theft.
The case was registered in the 89th Police District and is treated as an attempted murder, theft and resistance. The Secretariat of Public Security of the State of São Paulo (SSP-SP) reported that all PM forces remain mobilized in the operation within Paraisópolis.
The attack occurs less than a month after the death of Igor de Oliveira Moraes Santos, 24, in the same community. He was shot by two military police on July 10, even after being surrendered, according to investigations. The episode resulted in protests with barricades, burned vehicles and destruction of press equipment.
