The US government has doubled on Thursday (7) the amount it offers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Venezuela dictator Nicolás Maduro. In a video published in X, Attorney General Pam Bondi said the reward is now $ 50 million.
“Today, the Justice Department and the State Department announce a historic reward of $ 50 million for information leading to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro,” said Bondi.
“Maduro uses foreign terrorist organizations such as Tren de Aragua, [Cartel de] Sinaloa and Los Soles cartel to bring lethal drugs and violence to our country, ”added the attorney general.
Bondi said that on Thursday the administration of drug repression of the United States (DEA) seized 30 tons of cocaine “linked to mature and its associates, with almost 7 tons linked to Maduro himself.”
“The Department of Justice seized more than $ 700 million in assets linked to Maduro, including two jets, nine vehicles and others. Even so, the reign of Maduro Terror continues. He is one of the largest drug traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security,” said the attorney general.
“Under the leadership of the President [Donald] Trump, Maduro will not escape the courts and will be held responsible for his heinous crimes, ”he said.
The United States had offered in 2020, in the first Donald Trump management, a reward of $ 15 million for information that led to Maduro’s arrest and/or conviction, and on January 10 this year, still in the Joe Biden government, increasing the offer to $ 25 million.
The initial reward was offered when Maduro was indicted by a New York Federal Court for narcoterrorism accusations, conspiracy to bring cocaine to the United States, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy for possession of machine guns and destructive devices.
