The deputy secretary of the US State Department, Christopher Landau, said that Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF) is dragging Brazil to a judicial dictatorship in an X publication after the decree of house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
“The minister’s unbridled Orwellian impulses are dragging his court and his country to the unknown territory of a judicial dictatorship,” the American authority wrote.
Donald Trump’s government representative stated that civil servants need to be prepared for criticism of the population, something that, in his view, Minister Alexandre de Moraes cannot accept.
“This is part of the context and you have to wait for it. Apparently no one told this to STF Minister Moraes, who today put former Bolsonaro president in house arrest and deprived him of access to a cell phone. His supposed crime? Apparently criticizing Minister Moraes, which the minister now conveniently characterizes as a obstruction of justice,” he said at X.
The decree of pre-trial detention against Bolsonaro was issued on Monday (4). The Western Hemisphere Department, an organ of the United States State Department, even published a message in Portuguese criticizing the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
