Denmark Zoo Post asking for pet donations to feed Predators Facebook / Reproduction A Zoo in Denmark caused controversy when using the social network Facebook to ask for donations from small pets to serve as food for their predators. In the post, made on Thursday (31), the Aalborg Zoo says that “it has the responsibility to imitate the natural food chain of animals” kept there and offers guarantees that the pets will be “carefully sacrificed” by a trained team. “Chickens, rabbits, and pigs are an important part of our predators’ diet, especially the European lynx, which needs whole prey that resembles what it would naturally hunt in nature. (…) If you have a healthy animal that needs to be sacrificed for various reasons, feel free to give it to us,” says the post. Although the zoo indicates little pigs, rabbits and chickens as possible donations, a horse, for example, was also offered in the comments. After being sacrificed, animals will be used as forage, the zoo informed: “In this way, nothing is wasted-and we guarantee the natural behavior, nutrition and well-being of our predators.”
