Mix of ethanol in gasoline and biodiesel in diesel increases from this Friday

by Marcelo Moreira

From this Friday (1st), the new mixtures of biofuels approved by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) are valid throughout the national territory: E30-which raises the mandatory anhydrous ethanol content in gasoline from 27% to 30%-and the B15, which increases the addition of diesel biodiesel from 14% to 15%.

The measures are part of the fuel law of the future and, according to Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, represent “the government’s commitment to a cleaner, efficient and sovereign matrix.”

In addition to expanding the use of renewable sources and reducing fossil fuel dependence, E30 should generate an exportable surplus of about 700 million liters of gasoline per year. It is expected that the initiative should also result in the creation of more than 50 thousand jobs and in investments of over R $ 10 billion in the ethanol production chain.

In the case of B15, the measure contributes directly to the decarbonization of heavy transport.

The CNPE’s decision was based on technical tests, conducted by the Mauá Institute of Technology, with the participation of automakers, importers and representatives of the automotive industry, who attested to the viability and safety of new mixtures for vehicles already in circulation.
