Italy newspapers and news agencies highlighted on their websites on Tuesday (29) the arrest of federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) in Rome.
The information was confirmed by the Brazilian Federal Police, who said the “measure is the result of international police cooperation between the Federal Police, Interpol and Italy agencies.” Zambelli’s defense, however, said the deputy decided to surrender to the Italian authorities.
The Corriere Della Sera and La Repubblica newspapers, which are among the largest in Italy, the Ansa Agency, the country’s main, and Rai station emphasized that the deputy has Italian citizenship.
“Zambelli, a member of the party of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has Italian citizenship and was convicted in Brazil for hacking the National Justice Council (CNJ) computer system,” said Corriere della Sera, who highlighted Zambelli’s statement to CNN Brazil when he announced his intention to go to Italy in June: “I have an Italian passport. of a country of which I am a citizen ”.
La Repubblica newspaper, on the other hand, published a call on the cover of its site, to a report in which it reported that “Italo-Brazilian Deputy Zambelli” was arrested in Rome and emphasized in the title the allegation of innocence of the Brazilian parliamentary: “I am politically persecuted”.
The ANSA also put the news of Zambelli’s arrest on its cover. “Carla Zambelli, Brazilian deputy of Italian origin, sought by Interpol to serve a sentence of ten years in prison in Brazil, was arrested in Rome,” wrote the Italian agency.
The website of the RAI broadcaster highlighted the allegation of the Italian leftist deputy Angelo Bonelli that he reported to the police the address where Zambelli was and the argument of political persecution by the Brazilian parliamentary.
“In an interview with Repubblica, the deputy reiterated her innocence: ‘There is no evidence against me. I was incriminated. I was the most voted person in Brazil; I received a million votes. I am politically persecuted. The judge who condemned me is a dictator,'” said the website of the Italian public broadcaster.
