Among the dead is the shooter, who took his own life, Charin Gopatta, deputy compensation of the Metropolitan Police Department, told Reuters. “Police are investigating the person’s identity and the reason for the incident,” police said Thai in a statement. The five people killed by the shooter were market security, according to the statement. No tourists were killed or injured in the shooting, said Sanong Saengmani, a Bang Sue District policeman in Bangkok, where the market is, which mainly sells agricultural products. Tourism is one of the main engines of the Thai economy, the second largest in Southeast Asia, whose growth rate has been weak – and incidents like this can negatively impact international perception. In police video images, a suspect wearing white cap and a backpack hanging from the chest is seen walking through a market parking lot. Armed violence and possession of weapons are not uncommon in Thailand. In October 2023, a 14 -year -old suspect used a modified weapon to kill two people and injure five others in a luxury mall in downtown Bangkok.
