Before renamed Earl of Chatham, the ship was baptized as HMS Hind, A 24 -cannon frigate built in 1749in the city of Chichester, southern England. In his military trajectory, he participated in important moments of the British expansion, such as the siege of Louisbourg and Quebec, Canada, during the disputes against France in the 1750s. He also acted as escort of trains during the United States War in the 1770s.
