Britney Spears is pleading guilty following an arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The 44-year-old Blackout pop icon entered a guilty plea via a defense lawyer who appeared on her behalf in front of Ventura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson in California on Monday (May 4).
Britney was sentenced to 12 months probation
Britney pled guilty to a vehicle code violation known as a “wet reckless,” and was sentenced to 12 months probation and one day of jail credited as time served, via NBC News.
She’s also ordered to meet a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month, per the outlet, and agreed to allow her car to be searched for any alcohol or drugs.
NBC Los Angeles reports she will need to attend a DUI class and pay state-mandated fines.

What’s a “wet reckless” plea deal?
Britney was offered a “wet reckless” plea deal that allowed her to avoid jail time by pleading guilty. She’s being offered this opportunity because she doesn’t have a history of DUIs, she had a low blood alcohol level, and there were no injuries or crashes involved in her arrest.

People reports that a “wet reckless allows a person to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs and be put on probation for 12 months while receiving credit for any time spent in custody.”

After she was arrested in March, Britney‘s rep released a statement saying that she will be seeking help and it was later revealed that she voluntarily checked herself into rehab.
She was pulled over on March 4 in Westlake Village for allegedly driving under the influence. Authorities said in the criminal complaint that she had alcohol and drugs in her system, but did not disclose which substances she may have taken or list her blood alcohol content.

Britney’s defense lawyer speaks out
“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct. She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI. Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received,” her defense lawyer Michael Goldstein said in a statement, via NBC News.
Britney Spears‘ sons Sean Preston and Jayden James are reportedly trying to help her out as well. After it was reported that she voluntary checked herself into rehab, a source has told People that her sons played a “big part” in getting her into treatment.
