The United States announced this Friday (1st) that it will withdraw 5,000 soldiers from Germany. The move is seen as a way of punishing Berlin in the face of a diplomatic crisis between the two countries. Trump had already threatened to reduce the number of troops in Germany earlier in the week, after exchanging criticism with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. On Monday, Merz said the Iranians were “humiliating” the US in negotiations to end the two-month conflict. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the withdrawal should be completed within six to twelve months.
