‘Nobody asked for ID at the entrance’, reports journalist present at dinner with Trump American President Donald Trump said this Sunday (26) that King Charles III will visit the USA this coming week. The statement to Fox News comes because, earlier today, Buckingham Palace made a statement that cast doubt on the monarch’s trip to the country. This is because concern has grown about the safety of the king and queen consort, as Charles and Camilla’s trip is scheduled for next Monday (27), just two days after the shooting at the White House correspondents’ dinner, which took place at the Hilton Hotel, in Washington. In the statement issued this Sunday morning, Buckingham Palace said it was speaking with American authorities to determine whether what happened at the event would affect the British monarch’s visit. “A number of discussions will take place throughout the day to discuss with our American colleagues and our respective teams the extent to which Saturday night’s events may or may not impact the operational planning of the visit,” said the palace spokesperson. The same spokesperson said that Charles was being fully informed about the events and that he was relieved that Trump, his wife and all the guests were unharmed. Charles and his wife, Camilla, also reached out privately to Trump and his wife — first lady Melania Trump — to express their condolences, a palace source said. Before Trump’s statement about the diplomatic visit, Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche had already said he was confident King Charles would be safe during this week’s visit to the United States. The royal couple are due to arrive in the United States tomorrow for a four-day trip that includes a private meeting with Trump and a speech to Congress, marking 250 years since the US declared independence from British rule. The visit comes as Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government hopes the king’s trip will help reinforce the “special relationship” between the US and UK following recent diplomatic tensions.
