The changes were published in the Official Gazette of the Union and announced this Friday (24). According to the new Supplementary Instruction, portable chargers can only be transported in the following way: exclusively in hand luggage; each passenger can take a maximum of two power banks; Equipment must have a capacity of up to 100 Wh. Chargers with a capacity between 100 Wh and 160 Wh require prior authorization from the airline. Above 160 Wh, transportation is prohibited; it is prohibited to recharge power banks inside the aircraft; chargers must be protected against short circuits, with insulated terminals or in the original packaging. The agency also recommends checking with the airline before boarding, as each company may adopt stricter rules. According to Anac, the changes were adopted to reinforce aviation safety and reduce risks in air transport. In January, for example, a power bank exploded on a Latam flight going from São Paulo to Brasília. The incident forced the aircraft to divert its route and land in Ribeirão Preto.
