To implement the blockade, the US positioned another 17 warships, including destroyers and aircraft carriers, in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, southeast of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait itself has been closed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard since the end of February. The US also blockaded Iran’s ports and coast.
