Upon sanctioning the provisional measure, Trump made no immediate public comments. The signature, however, only postpones the impasse: with the new deadline set for April 30, Congress will have less than two weeks to decide whether to maintain the program for longer, impose new safeguards or reopen the discussion on the American government’s surveillance powers from scratch.
