Iran agreed not to have nuclear weapons for more than 20 years, says Trump

Iran has agreed not to develop or possess nuclear weapons for more than 20 years, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (16). “We have a statement, a very strong statement, that they will not have nuclear weapons for more than 20 years,” he told reporters on the White House grounds. Iran has not officially confirmed having agreed to this clause. In the same interview, he criticized Pope Leo XIV for his criticism of the war and added that his goal is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “I have nothing against the pope,” he said. “He can say whatever he wants, but I have the right to disagree with him. The Pope “has to understand that Iran is a very big threat. I’m super in favor of the Gospel, but I can’t allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.” The US and Iran are under a two-week ceasefire, but there is still no definitive peace agreement between the two countries. Negotiators met last Saturday (11) in Islamabad, Pakistan, but the negotiations failed.
