Her husband and Mehraveh’s father, Reza Khandan, imprisoned since December 2024, is a well-known Iranian human rights activist and graphic designer. The lawyer’s daughter said that, when her relatives attended the house, they found “the seizure of electronic devices, including laptops and her mother’s and father’s phones.” She added that she had not had any contact with her mother since her detention and that it was unclear which branch of the security forces was responsible for her detention. Norway-based rights organization Iran Human Rights last week warned of the risk of “mass detentions” during the war, as it reported that it had counted the arrests of at least 2,000 people based on official press reports and had also recorded 38 arrests of human rights defenders and activists. Another renowned human rights activist, Narges Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, has been in prison since December, when she was detained after protesting against Iran’s clerical authorities at a funeral. Mohammadi’s supporters warned on Tuesday that his health is extremely poor and his life is in danger.
