Food delivery robots in Chicago and Detroit have been filmed destroying bus stops and crashing into pedestrians on city sidewalks.
According to CBS Chicagothe robots in question belong to two robotics companies, Serve Robotics et C Robotics. One was seen smashing a bus stop window last Sunday, while another was involved in a similar incident on Tuesday afternoon.
Video of Sunday’s incident shows the delivery robot ” Nasir ” of Serve Robotics hitting the glass wall of a city bus stop. The accident left shards of glass scattered on the sidewalk and on the robot, which then attempted to drive over the debris.
Tuesday, a food delivery robot from the company C Robotics was also involved in a similar incident after destroying a bus stop in another part of the city. “It happens all the time — every time you look, the robot goes by hitting people,” said local barber Anthony Spaulding has CBS.
Both tech companies released statements saying they were aware of the incidents, quickly cleaned up the damage and were investigating the incident. C Robotics et Serve also cover the costs of repairing bus stops damaged by their robots.

The robots of C Robotics are monitored remotely by humans, while those of Serve operate completely autonomously, unless human intervention is necessary.
The two companies are currently operating in parts of Chicago under a robot food delivery pilot program approved in 2022. Since then, a petition to suspend the program has garnered more than 3,700 signatures.

Everyone thinks these delivery robots are cute until they start destroying city infrastructure.🧐
This 160-pound AI bot in Chicago just drove straight through the glass pane of a bus stop, showering itself in shattered glass. Now its sensors are so scrambled by the debris that… pic.twitter.com/G8hzBvEjp5
