In the cities of Chicago and Detroit (USA), food delivery robots have been filmed vandalizing bus stops and bumping into pedestrians on the sidewalks.
A CBS Chicago according to the robots belong to two robotics companies: a Serve Robotics is a C Robotics. One was seen breaking the glass of a bus stop last Sunday, while another was involved in a similar incident on Tuesday afternoon.
In the video of Sunday’s incident, Serve Robotics „Nasir” delivery robot is seen crashing into a glass panel at a bus stop.The impact left shards of glass scattered across the pavement and the robot, which then tried to navigate through the debris.
Tuesday a C Robotics one of its food delivery robots was also involved in a similar incident after damaging a bus stop in another part of the city. “It happens all the time – every time you look up, the robot is passing by and bumping into people,” said the local barber, Anthony Spaulding a CBSto.
Both tech companies issued statements saying they were aware of the incidents, quickly cleaned up the damage, and were investigating. THE C Robotics is a Serve they also cover the costs of repairing bus stop damage caused by their robots.
A C Robotics its robots are remotely supervised by humans, while Serve’s robots operate completely autonomously, except when human intervention is required.
The two companies are currently operating in parts of Chicago as part of a robotic food delivery pilot program approved in 2022. Since then, a petition calling for the program to be suspended has garnered more than 3,700 signatures.
