Houthi rebels claim missile attack on Israel

by Syndicated News

Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Israel, the first since the start of the Middle East war. Brigadier General Yahya Saree, military spokesman for the Houthis, made the claim in a statement released on Saturday morning by the rebel-controlled Al-Masirah satellite television station. The Israeli army claimed to have intercepted the missile launched towards Israeli territory. The attack came hours after Saree signaled in a vague statement on Friday that the rebels would join the war that has shocked the region and shaken the global economy. See the videos that are trending on g1 According to Saree, the Houthis fired a volley of missiles at what he described as “sensitive Israeli military sites” in southern Israel. The Houthis’ entry into the war also raises doubts about the possibility of new attacks on merchant ships transiting the Red Sea corridor, which could further worsen global maritime transport. Between November 2023 and January 2025, Houthi rebels attacked more than 100 merchant ships with missiles and drones, sinking two vessels and killing four sailors
