US can beat Iran without sending ground troops, Rubio says

by Syndicated News

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this Friday (27) at the end of a G7 meeting in France that his country can achieve the objectives stipulated in the war without necessarily sending ground troops to Iran.

“We are going to destroy their navy, we are going to destroy their air force, and we are going to significantly destroy their missile launchers so that they can never again hide behind these structures to get a nuclear weapon,” said the American diplomat.

As for why the Pentagon is sending more troops to the Middle East, he responded that President Donald Trump “needs to be prepared for multiple contingencies”, without detailing what they would be.

Rubio further declared that the military operation in Iran will end in a “matter of weeks” and urged other countries to “get more involved” to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Secretary of State, Washington will be part of the post-war effort, but countries in Europe and Asia “have a lot to lose and must contribute significantly” to these operations on the sea route.

He added to reporters outside Paris that the US has not yet received a response from Iran to the 15-point proposal put forward by the Trump administration this week. According to Rubio, it could come at “any time.”
