US investigates drone flights over bomber base

American authorities are investigating unauthorized drone flights over a US air base that houses nuclear-capable bombers, the Turkish agency reported on Friday (27). Anadolu. The unauthorized flights took place at Barksdale Air Force Base, in the state of Louisiana.

The incident occurred on the 9th. An American official interviewed by the agency, on condition of anonymity, stated that the case is being treated as a serious security breach.

Drone flights over military installations are prohibited by federal law in the United States.

“We are working closely with local and federal law enforcement to investigate these incursions,” the official said, as reported by Anadolu.

Barksdale Air Force Base is home to B-52 bombers, strategic U.S. Air Force aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The base even adopted additional security measures after the incident, including stay-in-secure orders. According to information from the US press, other episodes involving the unauthorized flight of drones over the location were recorded after the 9th.
