Armored vehicle developed by the Uralvagonzavod group combines recovery, mine-clearing and combat engineering functions in a single platform based on the T-90M tank.
The UBIM universal armored engineering vehicle, developed and produced by Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), part of Russia’s state-owned Rostec corporation, has been officially adopted by the engineering troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, according to an announcement released on Wednesday, March 26.
According to Rostec, the UBIM was designed to expand the operational capability of engineering units by combining, in a single platform, functions that would normally be carried out by different types of specialized vehicles. The company says the model brings together characteristics of an armored recovery vehicle (BREM), an engineering obstacle-clearing vehicle (IMR), and an armored mine-clearing vehicle (BMR).
The state corporation says the new equipment can be used in different battlefield scenarios, including the evacuation of damaged heavy vehicles, the removal of obstacles, and the opening of passages through mined areas to support troop advances.
In a statement, Bekhan Ozdoyev, industrial director of Rostec’s armaments cluster, said the adoption of the UBIM reflects the Russian military’s demand for engineering vehicles with greater mobility, protection, and versatility. He also noted that Uralvagonzavod recently delivered other engineering assets to the Russian Ministry of Defense, including mine-clearing vehicles and BREM-80 armored recovery vehicles.
The UBIM was developed on the basis of the T-90M Proryvone of the most modern armored platforms currently in service in Russia. According to the published information, the vehicle is powered by a 1,130-horsepower engine, ensuring high mobility across different types of terrain.

The vehicle’s crew consists of five service members: one commander, one driver, and three sappers responsible for engineering and mine-clearing operations.
Rostec says the UBIM is expected to strengthen the role of Russian engineering troops in missions requiring technical support, armored mobility, and the ability to operate under combat conditions.
