Hannah McKay/ Reuters Two men were arrested this Wednesday (25) in London on suspicion of involvement in the fire that destroyed four ambulances belonging to the Jewish community, next to a synagogue, on Monday, the police in the British capital announced. ✅ Follow g1’s international news channel on WhatsApp The men, aged 47 and 45, “were arrested on the morning of Wednesday, March 25, in north-west and central London”, a police statement said. Both have British nationality, authorities said. They were detained as “suspects of a fire set with the intention of endangering lives”, police added. The attack, which left no injuries, is being treated as an anti-Semitic hate crime. See the videos that are trending on g1 The ambulances belonged to Hatzola Northwest, a non-profit volunteer organization that serves the Jewish population in cases of medical emergencies. Golders Green, where Hatzola Northwest is located, is a neighborhood in London with a large Jewish population. Several cylinders in the vehicles exploded, causing windows to break in a nearby block of flats, the London fire brigade said. The London police counter-terrorism unit took over the investigation, but so far the incident has not been classified as terrorist. Group claimed attack A group called Ashab al-Yamin published a video on a Telegram channel to claim the attack. The group is classified as pro-Iranian by the jihadist group monitoring organization SITE Intelligence Group. Ashab al-Yamin had already claimed other recent attacks in Belgium and the Netherlands. The number of anti-Semitic incidents reported across the UK has soared since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in late 2023, according to the Community Security Trust, which works to protect the Jewish community. The group recorded 3,700 in 2025, up from 1,662 in 2022. In October 2025, an attacker gathered outside a synagogue in Manchester to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur and stabbed one person to death. Another person died during the attack.
