Trump talks about victory in the war against Iran and insists that he is negotiating a peace agreement. The United States sent Iran a peace plan that could end the conflict in the Middle East, which has lasted almost a month. Details of the proposal were revealed by the American and Israeli press on Tuesday (24). ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp ▶️ Context: According to The New York Times, the proposal was sent to Iran through Pakistan. It is not yet clear whether Israel participated in drafting or agrees with the plan. Israel’s Channel 12 said the proposal provides for a 30-day ceasefire for negotiations. The Wall Street Journal newspaper stated that mediators from Turkey, Egypt and Pakistan are arranging a meeting between US and Iranian authorities for Thursday (26). It is not yet known whether Iranian authorities would accept the terms proposed by the Americans. According to the foreign press, the United States’ peace plan has 15 points and involves Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. A draft obtained by Channel 12 points out that, among the US demands, are: Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons; limiting the range and number of missiles; the decommissioning of the Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow uranium enrichment plants; the end of funding for allied groups in the region, such as Hamas and Hezbollah; the creation of a free maritime zone in the Strait of Hormuz. The Wall Street Journal states that the United States has offered to lift economic sanctions imposed on Iran in the context of its nuclear program. The Americans also said they can assist and monitor the civilian nuclear program for peaceful purposes. Also according to the newspaper, the plan follows, in general terms, what the United States already defended in negotiations before the start of the war, on February 28. On the other hand, Iran may demand reparations for recent bombings. Until the last update of this report, the White House and the Iranian government had not commented on the plan. According to him, Iran “has no leaders left.” “They would like to make a deal,” he said at a White House press conference. “They agreed that they will never have a nuclear weapon.” Meanwhile, Iran denies it is in ceasefire talks with the US. Trump’s statements come at the same time that, according to Reuters, the US is preparing to send thousands of troops to the Middle East. Last week, the agency reported that officials with knowledge of the matter said the US may carry out a ground operation in the country. Among the options is the seizure of the island of Kharg, responsible for around 90% of Iran’s oil exports. Also this Tuesday, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that the Trump administration’s approval rating fell to 36%, the lowest level of its second term. According to Reuters, the drop is linked to Trump’s actions in the war against Iran. The conflict and rising fuel prices are identified as the main factors. VIDEOS: most watched on g1
