Finnair in Embraer announced an agreement on Monday, March 23, 2026 for up to 46 E195-E2 aircraftin one of the Finnish airline’s most important decisions for the renewal of its short-haul fleet.

The package includes 18 firm orders, 16 options in 12 purchase rights. The new aircraft will be used to replace older jets in Finnair’s fleet and support the company’s strategy of profitable growth, higher operational efficiency in reduction of emissions.

Largest investment in Finnair’s recent history

According to Finnair CEO Fur Kuusisto the purchase represents one of the most important steps the company has taken in its 102-year history.

“This is one of the largest investments in Finnair’s 102-year history and a crucial step in our strategy. The Embraer E2 allows us to strengthen our European network and seize growth opportunities in the market, while improving our competitiveness through reliability, versatility and high levels of passenger comfort. Importantly, this investment also reduces our carbon footprint and supports our climate goals,” he said.

The chosen model is the E195-E2a new-generation aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer that is increasingly popular with airlines looking to reduce costs, improve the passenger experience and operate more efficiently on regional and European routes.

According to Embraer, the E195-E2 was selected because of its… superior efficiency, high reliability in great attraction for passengers. The manufacturer emphasizes that the device currently has the quietest single-aisle aircraft on the market is and up to 35% more fuel efficient than the previous generation E190s currently used by Finnair.

Deliveries begin in 2027

Finnair’s aircraft will be configured with 134 seats and the first deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027. The agreement will also be included in Embraer’s order book first quarter of 2026.
