Ship crosses the Strait of Hormuz on March 19, 2026 AP Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said this Sunday (22) that it will “completely” close the Strait of Hormuz if US President Donald Trump carries out his threat to attack Iranian energy facilities. ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp The speech is a response to Trump, who on Saturday threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s energy plants if Tehran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. An attack on Iranian energy facilities would be considered a significant escalation in the war the two countries have been waging for more than three weeks. In a statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard also said that, in the event of an attack on these Iranian facilities, they will: “completely destroy” companies in the Middle East that have US participation; consider as “legitimate targets” energy installations in countries that host US bases. Israel promises to intensify attacks against Iran next week Before the Revolutionary Guard’s speech, the Iranian government had already reacted through other authorities to Trump’s threat: The President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, said on social media that the country will “irreversibly destroy” critical infrastructure and energy facilities in the Middle East. The Iranian Armed Forces also stated that Trump’s eventual appointment will result in reprisals against all US-owned energy infrastructure in the region and will be the target of a possible response from Tehran. The least inflammatory reaction was from the Iranian ambassador to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UN maritime agency. Ali Mousavi stated that the strait remains closed only to ships belonging to “enemies of Iran” and that Iran wants to contribute to the safe passage of other vessels.
