Gilmar Mendes releases Leila Pereira from attending the INSS CPMI and this Wednesday’s session (18) is canceled

by Marcelo Moreira

The Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) canceled the session this Wednesday (18) that would hear the president of Palmeiras and Crefisa, Leila Pereira. The cancellation came after a decision by Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), who decided to release Leila from appearing before the Commission.

Leila was summoned to talk about irregularities in payroll loans. In addition to authorizing non-attendance, Gilmar Mendes also authorized the right of the president of Crefisa to remain silent and to be accompanied by a lawyer, without suffering embarrassment or coercion, if she chose to attend.

When analyzing the case, the STF minister pointed out that the summons indicates a possible deviation from the purpose and extrapolation of the object investigated by the Commission.

Last week, the defense of the president of Palmeiras informed the commission that Leila would not be able to participate in the testimony, because she would be out of the country between the 10th and 25th. The INSS CMPI is scheduled to operate until the 28th of March, with the last session on the 26th.
