Iran confirms death of Ali Larijani after Israeli attack

Iran’s Islamic regime confirmed this Tuesday (17) the death of Ali Larijani, head of the country’s Supreme National Security Council, following an attack carried out by Israel during the early hours of the morning in Tehran. The confirmation was made by Iranian state media and also by a publication on Larijani’s official account on the X social network, in which a message was published with a religious tone announcing that he had died as a “martyr”.

According to Iranian state media, the Supreme National Security Council confirmed that Larijani died along with his son and members of his security team after the bombing of Israel. The note described the leader as a “servant of God who achieved martyrdom after years of fighting for the Islamic revolution”.

Earlier, Israel’s Defense Ministry announced that Larijani was killed in an airstrike against regime targets in Tehran. According to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, the offensive aimed to target the Iranian political and military leadership, which, according to him, continues to coordinate actions against Israel and allied countries in the Middle East.

Ali Larijani was considered one of the most influential figures in the Iranian regime and had assumed a central role in the power structure after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Before the start of the war, he worked behind the scenes as one of the country’s main political organizers during Iran’s negotiations with the US.

According to analysts interviewed by international vehicles, Larijani’s death represents one of the most significant blows against the regime’s leadership since the beginning of the joint military offensive led by Israel with support from the United States. The war has entered its third week with continued attacks on Iranian military installations and Tehran-allied groups in the region.
