by Marcelo Moreira

Tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran remain intense on the 18th day of conflict. Attacks across the Middle East target embassies and other countries that are not directly involved in the war.

The Iranians carried out new attacks in the early hours of Tuesday (17) on a United States embassy in Iraq. However, with the exchange of bombings, the downed missiles and drones have fallen into residential areas and hit civilians.

Benjamin Netanyahu continues to hunt for the leaders of the Ayatollah regime. This morning, Israeli media announced that a Tehran regime strongman, Ali Larijani, was the target of an attack. But there is no confirmation whether he is dead or alive.

The Strait of Hormuz remains under Iranian power, which only allows a few ships to pass, such as Chinese and Indian ships. Donald Trump who called for an international naval force to liberate the strait is meeting setback as the Europeans have refused to join the war.

In Lebanon, around one million people are displaced, representing around 18% of its population. The country was drawn into conflict after the Shiite Hezbollah militia attacked Israel in retaliation for the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The capital Beirut and the south of the country continue to be under intense bombing. Israel called up 450,000 reservists and announced ground incursions into the country, which fears a large-scale invasion. The death toll now exceeds 800, including at least 100 children.
