Hyundai Palisade Stop Sale: 68,500 SUVs Recalled

by Marcelo Moreira

  • Hyundai has stopped selling certain trims of the 2026 Hyundai Palisade after a two-year-old child died in an incident involving the SUV’s power seats.
  • The recall affects 68,500 Palisade Limited and Calligraphy models.
  • Hyundai is issuing an over-the-air software update as an interim fix.

Hyundai has stopped selling certain trims of the 2026 Palisade. The automaker is preparing a recall of 68,500 SUVs in the United States and Canada because the power second- and third-row seats may fail to detect an occupant or an object. The recall follows the death of a young child in Ohio on March 7.

Hyundai said in a press release that it “does not yet have the full details and the incident is still under investigation,” while extending “its deepest sympathies to her family.” The recall affects the model’s Limited and Calligraphy trims and includes 60,515 SUVs in the United States and 7,967 in Canada.

The automaker is currently finalizing the details of the recall and will then submit them to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Hyundai is also working to develop the fix for the Palisade and, in the meantime, issue an interim over-the-air update that should be available by the end of March.

According to the company, the update will “enhance the system’s response to contact with occupants or objects, introduce additional operating safeguards, and enhance overall system safety.” Hyundai said it is contacting owners via email, phone, and more, “advising them to use caution” when operating the seats.

Motor1’s Take: The Hyundai Palisade is a family vehicle, and this kind of incident is the stuff of nightmares for parents. We hope Hyundai quickly finds a fix and repairs the affected vehicles.
