Israel stated that it is investigating the case. According to the official Palestinian news agency, the family was shot late Saturday night, after going out to buy new clothes for Eid al-Fitr, a holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, celebrated this week. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that Ali Odeh, Waed Odeh and two of the couple’s four children were shot in the head. The other two children survived, but suffered shrapnel injuries, which were assessed by rescuers after the team gained access to the scene. The organization accused Israel of delaying the arrival of ambulances sent to respond. According to the Israeli version, the military was pursuing suspects of “terrorist activity”. The episode is under investigation. The members of the Odeh family are the most recent victims in the occupied West Bank, where Israeli settlers and soldiers have killed at least eight Palestinians since the start of the war with Iran. The episode takes place against a backdrop of escalating tension since the start of the conflict between Israel, the US and Iran, on February 28. Mobility restrictions and increased settler violence have marked the region. According to Yesh Din, an Israeli organization that works in Israel and the West Bank, there have been 109 violent incidents carried out by settlers since the start of the war.
