The vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, stated this Saturday (14) that the federal government is currently prioritizing ensuring supply and “holding down the price” of diesel. He also defended the actions announced by the government, this week, of zeroing the PIS/Cofins rates on diesel and the creation of a subsidy of an additional R$0.32 per liter.
The expectation is to reduce, in total, at least R$0.64 per liter at the pump. The measures take into account that Brazil imports 25% of diesel. Due to the war in the Middle East, there was an increase in the international price of a barrel of oil, which impacts prices at the fuel pump.
Alckmin contextualized that the rise in diesel prices could make food and transport more expensive, in addition to increasing inflation. The vice-president also visited the Scania dealership in Santa Maria (DF) due to the progress of the Move Brasil program, the public policy that aims to encourage the renewal of the truck fleet.
