Iran promises new wave of repression against regime critics

Entering the second week of war in the Middle East, the Iranian regime appears to remain firm in its objective of keeping repressive structures standing, despite intense attacks by the US and Israel against strategic targets in the country.

One of the growing fears of the Islamic dictatorship is the emergence of a new wave of demonstrations amid the conflict. The head of the national police, Ahmad-Reza Radan, declared that the authorities are ready to treat any opponent as an “enemy” on the streets.

“If someone presents themselves in tune with the enemy’s desires, we will no longer see them as a mere protester, but rather as an enemy,” Radan told state broadcaster IRIB on Tuesday. He added that “all our forces are ready, with their hands on the trigger, prepared to defend the revolution.”

The new threats aimed at opponents of the regime come amid statements by the American government that the Iranian people will soon decide the future of the country.

Last week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the people of the Persian country should not protest at the moment, amid the US and Israeli military campaign, but “there will come a time” when they determine that “it is time to take advantage of this advantage” against the regime.

A few months ago, Iran was the scene of massive protests against the economic and political situation. The regime quickly brutally repressed anti-government protests, leaving thousands of people dead and detained.

At the time, President Donald Trump promised to send help to contain mass murders in the country. On the 28th, the US launched the first attacks in collaboration with Israel, with a speech focused on destroying the nuclear program developed by the Tehran regime.
