A man is facing criminal charges with a possible prison sentence after his 12-year-old son ran a red light and was involved in an accident while riding an electric motorcycle in the city of Yorba Linda, California (USA).
According to the broadcaster KTLA, Richard John Eyssallennethe boy’s father, was charged with child endangerment and also received a citation for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison.
According to the media report, the boy had received an electric motorcycle 30 ballets as a gift the previous Christmas, but he had already been in trouble with the police for illegal driving before the accident in question, which occurred in the middle of last year.
The electric motorcycle had already been seized previously, and both the boy and his father had to attend a safety briefing organized by the Yorba Linda Police Services.
Apparently, neither of them paid much attention to the briefing. The accident occurred a few months later, when the boy ran a red light and crashed into a car, causing “a concussion, an intracranial hemorrhage, a fractured skull, a broken wrist and a fractured femur.”
It is worth mentioning that, according to state law, the boy should not have driven the motorcycle on public roads, since the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle license in California is 16 years old.
All this led to the accusation against the boy’s father for these crimes. The accident could have been much worse. Ultimately, it is the parents’ responsibility to keep their child safe and off the streets.
