In the period between 2021 and 2025, Germany overtook China to rank fourth among the world’s largest arms exporters, according to a study by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
According to the survey, Germany’s share of the global arms market rose to 5.7%, while China accounted for 5.6%. Although the difference is minimal, the numbers reflect the growth of the military industry in Europe amid the war in Ukraine.
Currently, one of Germany’s main export directions in the defense industry remains heavy armored vehicles, artillery ammunition and air defense systems.
The tanks Leopard 2infantry fighting vehicles KF41 Lynx and wheeled armored personnel carriers Boxer became crucial equipment for Europe’s armored vehicle fleets.

At the same time, an analysis of China’s military market shows a slowdown in arms exports. The SIPRI study noted that Beijing is focusing on supplying its own military and gradually transitioning to fully domestic production of complex systems.
The United States remains at the top, with 42% of global arms exports. France comes in second, with 9.8%, and Russia comes in third, with 6.8%. Although it is still at the top of the ranking, data from Russia shows a 64% drop in arms exports during the period analyzed.
