According to Ecuadorian authorities, this dissent was involved last May in the murder of 11 soldiers during an operation against illegal mining. Ecuador’s Ministry of Defense reported that the camp had capacity for around 50 people. No casualties were reported after the bombing. The operation took place in the Amazon province of Sucumbíos, shortly before a meeting in the American city of Miami between Trump and the governments of Ecuador, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, El Salvador and Honduras. According to Donovan, the action took place on the order of the US Secretary of Defense and involved joint action between US and Ecuadorian forces. In a statement, the general stated that the military is “advancing alongside our partners in the fight against narcoterrorism.” “I congratulate our joint forces and the Ecuadorian armed forces on the successful operation against narco-terrorism in Ecuador. This collaborative and decisive action is a strategic success for all Western Hemisphere nations committed to disrupting and defeating narco-terrorism,” said Donovan.
