Jornal Nacional Russia launched a series of drones and missiles against Ukraine on Saturday night (7), damaging infrastructure and killing at least 10 people, including two children, in the city of Kharkiv, in the northeast of the country, Ukrainian authorities said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russia had launched 480 drones and 29 missiles against the energy sector and railway infrastructure across the country. “There must be a response from partners to these brutal attacks on life,” Zelenskiy said on the Telegram app. Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reportedly stated that the country’s forces carried out massive attacks overnight against Ukrainian military-industrial complexes, military airfields and energy facilities. The information was released by the Interfax news agency and Reuters was unable to independently verify the reports. Ballistic missile hits residential building Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, said the city of Kharkiv was targeted by Russian drones and missiles, and that 10 people, including two children, were killed after a Russian ballistic missile hit a five-story residential building. “When we got here, 20 minutes after the explosion, I thought I was going to have a stroke. I couldn’t say two words and my legs were wobbly,” Hanna, a resident of the destroyed building, told Reuters. “It’s a good thing I wasn’t there with my son and my father was with me. They were ordinary people who lived there. What was their target?” White smoke rose from the rubble and emergency workers carried a body in a black bag, Reuters images at the scene showed. In Kharkiv, 15 people were also injured and 19 residential buildings were damaged by Russian strikes, Syniehubov said. According to him, commercial and administrative buildings, electricity distribution lines and cars were also hit. In Kiev, three people were injured and heating was stopped in 2,806 residential buildings in four districts of the capital after Russian strikes hit an energy infrastructure facility, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said. National power grid operator Ukrenergo said emergency power cuts were implemented in seven regions of the country following the Russian attacks. Ukrainian officials said Russia also attacked four railway stations and other railway infrastructure in central Ukraine, as well as port infrastructure in the southern region of Odessa, setting fire to containers with vegetable oil and damaging a grain warehouse.
