Spain denies military cooperation with the US after Trump threat

by Marcelo Moreira

After American President Donald Trump threatened to cut trade relations with Spain, the White House spokeswoman said that the European country agreed to cooperate militarily with the United States.

The Spanish Foreign Minister “categorically” denied that the country would cooperate. He said that the Spanish Government’s position of ‘no to war’ continues to be clear and resounding and that there will be no use of the bases under Spanish sovereignty.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Trump is “playing Russian roulette” with the fate of millions of people with the war, and that he will not be complicit in American actions just out of fear of retaliation. The countries of the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council issued a joint note condemning Iranian attacks on Arab allies.

Arab nations highlighted their commitment that their territories will not be used to launch attacks against Iran.
