E3 countries consider attacking Iran and collaborating with the US

by Marcelo Moreira

Germany, France and the United Kingdom stated this Sunday (1st) that they may adopt measures to destroy Iran’s ability to launch missiles and drones, in defense of its interests and those of its allies in the Middle East. The bloc, known as E3, also declared that it could collaborate with the United States, which is maintaining a joint offensive with Israel against the Islamic republic.

In a joint note, the three countries stated that they will be able to allow “necessary and proportionate defensive actions” to neutralize, at the source, the Iranian capacity to launch missiles and drones. The group also confirmed alignment with Washington and regional partners on the topic.

The declaration is signed by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.

The leaders condemned the attacks classified as “indiscriminate and disproportionate” carried out by Tehran against several countries, including nations that did not participate in the initial military operations conducted by the United States and Israel.

“Iran’s reckless attacks have targeted our close allies and are threatening our military personnel and civilians across the region. We urge Iran to immediately end these actions,” they said.

Incidents hit European allies and bases

The escalation occurred after Iranian drone attacks hit the port of Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, reaching a French military naval hangar. According to authorities, there was only limited material damage.

The British Ministry of Defense reported that, in a joint operation with Qatar, a Typhoon fighter neutralized an Iranian drone aimed at the allied country.

In addition to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, Iranian retaliations also affected Bahrain and Kuwait, countries that host Western bases and strategic interests.

The E3 demonstration expands the international axis involved in the crisis and indicates that the response to Iran may gain a new level of military coordination between European powers and the United States. *With information from the EFE Agency
