Israeli state television KAN, citing government officials, said the airstrikes targeted Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah. Ali Khameneiand the president Masoud Pezeshkian. Khamenei was not in Tehran but in a safe location, Reuters said.
The coordinated attack hit several Iranian cities, with a focus on Tehran. One of the bombings targeted the Beyt-e Rahabari complex, associated with the supreme leader. Images shown by local broadcasters show black smoke over the area.
Iran admits possible loss of commanders in US and Israeli attack
In an interview with NBC News, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the country may have lost “some commanders”, without naming names. “We may have lost some commanders, but that’s not a big problem,” he said.
The chancellor also stated that Iran seeks to de-escalate the conflict, but is not in contact with Washington at this time.
The minister also stated that he sees the possibility of an agreement that ensures the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program and said he is waiting for the end of the attacks to begin negotiations. Furthermore, he criticized the United States and Israel for carrying out the offensives despite ongoing nuclear negotiations and stated that Iran will not build missiles capable of reaching North American territory.
