US asks diplomatic officials to evacuate Israel

by Marcelo Moreira

This Friday (27), the United States government authorized the departure of non-essential employees from its embassy in West Jerusalem, citing security risks. In a statement, the United States Department of State stated that the situation in the region is considered unpredictable.

A similar measure was adopted in Lebanon, where around 40 employees of the US embassy in Beirut were asked to leave the country. Lebanon borders northern Israel and is home to Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed group.

The moves come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, including recent statements by President Donald Trump about the possibility of direct military action. At the same time, Turkey suspended flights between Istanbul and Tehran.

In the military field, the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford docked in the port of Haifa, in Israel, expanding the North American strategic presence in the region.

Despite the climate of tension, the two countries maintain open diplomatic channels and continue negotiating possible limitations on the Iranian nuclear program. A new round of talks is scheduled to take place in Vienna next week.
