BMW Leaks 2027 Models. Here Are All The Names

BMW has pledged to launch about 40 cars by the end of next year to flesh out its Neue Klasse lineup, spearheaded by the new iX3. Although only a handful of models have been officially announced so far, a massive leak on the company’s site reveals the names of what Munich is cooking up for the 2027 model year in the United States.

The company’s U.S. online shop inadvertently leaked the future portfolio, spanning from the 2 Series all the way up to the 7 Series. Without a doubt, one of the most interesting additions is the M2 xDrive. It has long been rumored that BMW would give its smallest M car the all-wheel-drive treatment, and now that move is essentially confirmed.

The M2 is currently the only full-fat M model without xDrive, but that will change for 2027. Logic suggests it will be offered exclusively with an automatic transmission, though purists have no reason to worry. The regular M2 will stick around with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox.

The M2 xDrive will almost certainly command a premium. For reference, there’s a $5,100 gap between the M4 Competition and its all-wheel-drive sibling. For 2026, the M2 costs $70,350, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the 2027 M2 xDrive starts at around $75,000.

There will also be a weight penalty due to the added complexity. For context, an M240i with xDrive is about 121 pounds (55 kilograms) heavier than its rear-wheel-drive counterpart. Both M2 variants are expected to soldier on until the end of this generation, which is reportedly scheduled to retire in mid-2029.

But the massive leak on BMW USA’s web shop goes well beyond the M2 xDrive. In the 3 Series lineup, an M350 xDrive is listed. That points to the forthcoming next-generation 3 Series Sedan, with a new M Performance variant set to replace the outgoing M340i xDrive. Today’s M Lite 3 Series is also available with rear-wheel drive, but that may not be the case for its successor.

The 3 Series portfolio also includes two fully electric models: i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive. That’s hardly surprising, considering BMW has already announced it will bring the i3 sedan to the U.S. in 2027. Expect these EVs to be mechanically related to the iX3 crossover, which goes on sale this summer in North America. Speaking of which, the iX3 is listed in three flavors for 2027: 40 sDrive (RWD), 40 xDrive, and 50 xDrive.

Predictably, the first-ever iX4 also appears, in two versions: 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive. The coupe-styled crossover will likely break cover later this year as a sleeker alternative to the iX3, albeit with less rear headroom and a smaller cargo area due to its more steeply sloped roofline.

Moving up the hierarchy, the 2027 X5 refers to the next-generation luxury SUV set to debut in the coming months. Surprisingly, the rear-wheel-drive base version will remain as the 40 sDrive. Less surprising is the arrival of an electric iX5 60 xDrive.

The 7 Series appears blurred on the web shop since BMW hasn’t unveiled the facelifted model yet. Although the list doesn’t include the 760i, the V8 isn’t going anywhere. Reports point to a new eight-cylinder M760 with M Performance badging. Sadly, the V12 is highly unlikely to return, as it will remain exclusive to Rolls-Royce models.

Predictably, the Z4 and 8 Series are absent, as both are only months away from retirement.

Motor1’s Take: It’s a rare misstep for BMW to jump the gun by revealing the names of its 2027 models ahead of schedule. The leaked list underscores a packed agenda, with numerous new or updated vehicles across the range. And there’s more to come. We expect the next-generation X7 to debut next year as a 2028 model. The three-row flagship SUV will also gain an electric variant.

A new X6 is only a matter of time, complete with an EV version. There are also rumblings of a rugged addition to the “X” lineup, positioned to rival the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. It’s said to offer both V8 and electric versions, though it may not arrive until closer to the end of the decade. In the meantime, the first electric M models (M3 and X3 M) will go on sale by the end of 2027.
