The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) accused the terrorist group Hezbollah of rearming in the Bekaa Valley, in eastern Lebanon, and carried out new air strikes this Thursday (26) against the group’s bases and infrastructure in the region. According to an IDF military statement, the targets included structures used by the so-called elite Radwan force, the armed wing of the terrorist group.
The IDF reported that the Israeli Air Force hit military complexes used to store weapons, including rockets, as well as facilities intended for training the Radwan force. The Army stated that Hezbollah’s activity in these locations and its attempts to rearm “constitute a violation of the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon” and pose a direct threat to the State of Israel.
Thursday’s attacks are part of an intensification of Israel’s operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon in recent weeks. In addition to the danger of rearmament, there is also concern on the part of Israel that Hezbollah, supported by Iran, could join Tehran in a possible new conflict against Israel, especially in the event of a confrontation between the United States and Iran. According to Israeli assessments mentioned by the local press, Iran would have pressured Hezbollah to act in a possible regional conflict.
Bombings carried out by Israel last week have already hit command centers linked to Hezbollah’s missile unit in the Bekaa Valley, resulting in the deaths of eight members of the terrorist group, including a commander identified by Hezbollah as Hussein Mohammed Yaghi. The IDF said the aim of the actions was to destroy the group’s rocket and missile capabilities if it attempted to resume hostilities.
