This Thursday (26), the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã reported that Argentine Gianluca Prestianni had confessed to the squad of the Portuguese team Benfica that he called Vinícius Júnior a “monkey” during a valid UEFA Champions League game.
The episode took place on February 10, in the game between Benfica and Real Madrid. On that occasion, Vini Júnior scored the only goal of the game, guaranteeing a 1-0 victory for the Spanish team.
After celebrating the goal, Prestianni allegedly took the shirt to his mouth. The Brazilian striker then accused his opponent of having made a racist comment. Internally, the Argentine player reportedly told his teammates that he was unaware of the racist nature of the expression used.
According to the publication, Prestianni presented videos with the intention of maintaining that he did not intend to offend Vinícius Júnior.
