For those who have one iPhone and an infotainment system with support for CarPlay in the car, it will soon be possible to enjoy video playback inside the vehicle — a novelty that will likely come with the next minor version of iOS.
This feature was already mentioned earlier, then Apple announced iOS 26 in June 2025. At the time, the tech giant told developers that the new operating system for iPhone would support video playback.
The feature was not present in the first version or in those that followed, but is now available to developers in iOS 26.4 beta. On his YouTube channel, the developer demonstrated Thomas Dye how video playback works in a CarPlay-simulator.
Dye showed that a version of Apple TVapp now appears on the home screen i CarPlay and works very similarly to on iPhones, iPads and TVs. You can view your list, search for TV shows and movies, and see your selections.
App developers will also be able to activate a form of AirPlay from your phone to your car, which will support video sources for apps that don’t have their own CarPlay– implementation. When Dye played a video from such an app, the interface displayed a message that read “Show video on iPhone.”
