US orders withdrawal of employees from American embassy in Beirut, Lebanon

The United States ordered the withdrawal of non-essential workers from the embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, amid President Donald Trump’s threats to attack Iran. Around 40 employees left the embassy via Beirut international airport this Monday, according to a Lebanese security source interviewed by AFP. The order provides for the departure of employees who do not perform essential functions and family members. The embassy will continue to operate. “We continually evaluate the security environment and based on the latest review, we consider it prudent to restrict our presence to essential personnel,” the official said. The withdrawal comes after Hezbollah called for “resistance” on Saturday (21). The group reacted to the death of eight members in an Israeli attack during a meeting in eastern Lebanon. Trump ordered a significant reinforcement of American forces in the Middle East. The president threatens to attack Iran if there is no agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
